Contested by 16 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation system with the PTIR football league.

The PTIR League Premier Division is a corporation in which the 16 member clubs act as shareholders. Teams play 30 matches each, totalling 240 matches in the season. It is currently sponsored by the Paul Trigwell Island Run (PTIR).

The current holders are Halfway Houses FC.

Competition format[]

Competition[]

There are 16 clubs in the Premier Division. During the course of a season each club plays the others twice (a double round-robin system), once at their home stadium and once at that of their opponents, for a total of 30 games. Teams receive three points for a win and one point for a draw. No points are awarded for a loss. Teams are ranked by total points, then goal difference, and then goals scored. At the end of each season, the club with the most points is crowned champion. If points are equal, the goal difference and then goals scored determine the winner. If still equal, teams are deemed to occupy the same position. If there is a tie for the championship, for relegation, or for qualification to other competitions, a play-off match at a neutral venue decides rank. The two lowest placed teams are relegated into the PTIR League Second Division, and the winning team from the Second Division, together with the winner of play-offs involving the second to fifth placed clubs, are promoted in their place.

Qualification for European competitions[]

Qualification for the UEFA Champions League involves only the league champion of the Premier Division who of course qualify for the UEFA Champions League, this team enters the first qualifying round. The team placed second and third in the Premier Division qualifies for the UEFA Europa League first qualifying round.

Due to the fact that this league is new to the European competition, the PTIR League is ranked bottom of the UEFA coefficient behind San Marino.
